When the Night of a Lifetime Turned Into a Limp
It started like a dream:
Free sixth-row tickets at Red Rocks Amphitheater
A tailgate with old friends.
Dustin Lynch lighting up the stage.
Sister Hazel unlocking childhood memories I didn’t even know I still had.
The music, the moment, the magic — it was all perfect.
Until it wasn’t.
Because one leap toward the front of the stage (yes, for the small chance of a guitar pic or a signature) ended with a rolled ankle that knocked me right into a whole bunch of strangers and my firefighter husband carrying me down the mountain like I was the encore.
And listen... I’d love to say that was the worst of it.
But add in a bathtub ice bath trying to make it until morning instead of going to the ER, 50+ guests coming to our house for Easter in 2 days, a long-awaited flight to a dream event just a week away, and a fractured ankle with a side of lots of ligament damage...
Well. Let’s just say the vibes had shifted.
And here’s what surprised me...
Somewhere between the fall, the frustration, and the freezing cold bath—I found myself in a conversation with God.
It was raw. It was angry. It was real. And oddly enough… it was full of gratitude.
Because even in the chaos, I could still see the blessings.
The way music transported me back to my roots.
The way my husband showed up for me—literally carrying me when I couldn’t walk.
The way pain demanded I slow down and check in with what I really needed.
So now, a few crutches, a boot, and some ice packs later… here’s what I’m holding onto:
3 Things I’m Taking With Me (Besides the Crutches)
Nostalgia is a sacred gift.
Music has a way of transporting us back to where we came from—and reminding us just how far we’ve come.
The people who show up for you are gold.
I will never forget the way my husband carried me—literally and emotionally—down that mountain. Who are you carrying right now? And who’s carrying you?
When plans fall apart, trust your inner knowing.
Advocate for yourself. Speak up. And remember that even when it’s messy, there’s purpose in the pivot.
So, if you’re in a season that feels off-script, derailed, or just downright inconvenient—same, friend.
But know this:
You can be mad and still be grateful.
You can be hurting and still be healing.
And you can fall flat on your face… and still be exactly where you’re supposed to be.
