How to Get Your Focus Back Fast. Use This 3 Part Reset

The other day, I cracked open a fortune cookie that read, “Sharpen your focus and you will achieve your greatest potential.

I laughed because it was the exact reminder I needed. Lately, I have been feeling like my brain is a browser with 27 tabs open and music playing somewhere... but I cannot figure out which tab it is coming from. #sendhelp

If you have ever felt overwhelmed by all the things you could be doing and ended up doing none of them, you are not alone. It is not that we do not know what tools to use to stay focused like time blocking, habit stacking, turning off notifications, or saying no.

The challenge is actually doing the right things consistently.

So instead of giving you a list of focus hacks, I want to share three focus-resetting truths I am leaning into right now, along with the stories behind them that might help you reclaim your own focus.

1. Decide What Actually Matters This Season

A few weeks ago, while having "a moment,"I paused and asked myself, “If I only get ONE thing done this week, what actually matters?”

The answer was simple: finish my client welcome email sequence. I had been avoiding it for weeks because it felt too big and too important to just wing it. But once I set aside everything else and committed to that one task, something shifted.

Momentum, peace, clarity. That one act of follow-through created a ripple effect that made everything else feel more doable.

Focus comes from doing the right thing, not all the things.

2. Build in Margin

One of the best pieces of advice I have ever heard came from a business coach who told me her ideal calendar was set up so she only worked three weeks of the month, leaving the fourth week open for life to happen.

At first, I thought, “That must be nice.” But then I realized what she was really saying: margin is not about doing less. It is about having room to breathe.

I have seen what happens when I pack my days too tightly. One small hiccup like a rescheduled appointment, a sick kid, or a late delivery can unravel my entire week.

This is not just for business owners. Whether you are in corporate, at home, or juggling both, margin matters. It could look like:

  • Keeping one weeknight free every week

  • Blocking 15-minute buffers between meetings

  • Declaring Friday afternoons as catch-up time so you are not breathless by the weekend

Margin is not laziness. Margin is leadership. And focus cannot thrive without it.

3. Create a Non-Negotiable Rhythm

During the school year, I have a rock-solid morning routine with my kids. I can do anything up until 7am, but from 7 to 8:30, I am fully in mom mode with breakfast, getting ready, and enjoying a slow cup of coffee before they head out the door. That rhythm grounds all of us and sets the tone for my day.

But summer has been a wrecking ball to that routine. Slower mornings have made me realize how much I rely on that anchor for focus.

So here is what I am doing right now: I have created a 3pm reset pocket. No meetings. No scrolling. No frantic “just one more thing.” I make an iced coffee, head outside, and let myself be still while watching my kids play and re-centering for the rest of the day.

Sometimes, focus is less about adding more and more about creating space for the day to realign.

Your Focus Challenge
  • Focus does not come from forcing yourself to work harder, it comes from being intentional.

  • Decide what matters most this season.

  • Build in margin so your days can breathe.

  • Create rhythms that anchor you.

This week, pick one focus anchor. Write it down, tell a friend, and commit to it. You might be surprised how quickly things shift when you stop trying to juggle everything and just sharpen your focus.
