You know those moments when something keeps showing up in your life? Random conversations, passing mentions, interesting “signs”? And then, you start wondering… “ok, who/what/where is trying to get my attention?!”
That was me with the 72-hour water fast.
It wasn’t planned. I didn’t prep. I didn’t read a book or follow a guide. But two people I trusted mentioned it in one weekend, and before I knew it, I was staring down a plate of fried rice on Sunday night thinking… This might be my last meal for three days.
Spoiler alert: It was.
And honestly? It was one of the most unexpectedly clarifying, healing, and empowering things I’ve ever done.
Why I Did It (and Why I Almost Didn’t)
I wasn’t looking for a cleanse. I wasn’t chasing weight loss. But I was feeling stuck: mentally foggy, emotionally tired, and circling the drain of self-pressure (you know the one… where you’re productive but it never feels like enough?).
When my friend shared how much clarity she found after a 72-hour fast, something inside me lit up. Not because I wanted to suffer… but because I wanted to hear my own thoughts again. To create space for something deeper to speak.
So I went for it.
What Actually Happened During the Fast
Let’s get the obvious out of the way: yes, I love food. Yes, I thought I’d be starving. No, I didn’t think I could go 24 hours without a snack, let alone 72.
But here’s the wild thing…
I felt amazing.
Here’s what surprised me most:
Energy levels were actually better than normal
Brain fog disappeared (like, gone)
My inflammation decreased and my body felt lighter, looser, more awake
I experienced deep clarity—the kind you can’t access when you’re rushing, scrolling, or snacking your way through discomfort
And with some strategic distractions (hot tea, big projects, and avoiding kitchen smells), I stayed the course.
What I Learned (That You Might Need Too)
Fasting wasn’t about restriction. It was about reconnection—to my body, my mind, and my spirit.
I learned how often I eat because I’m bored, not hungry.
I learned that silence and stillness can be uncomfortable, but also where breakthroughs hide.
And I learned that my body is wildly more capable than I give it credit for.
If You’re Curious About Trying It…
→ Do your research. I’m not a doctor. (Seriously.)
→ Create a distraction plan. Projects > pantry.
→ Break the fast intentionally. That first sip of broth hit hard. Take it slow.
→ Make it meaningful. Use the space for prayer, journaling, or whatever grounds you.
And most importantly… trust yourself.
Your body is wise. Your spirit is listening. And your next breakthrough might be just a pause away.
