Sitting in the Messy Middle
You know the feeling.
You’ve made a decision.
You’ve taken the first few brave steps.
You’ve committed to the thing—whether it’s leaving the job, starting the business, cleaning out the closet (literally or metaphorically).
And then… you hit it.The middle.
The part where momentum slows and the excitement fades. The clarity you had? Feels foggy. The goal you set? Feels far.
And suddenly, you’re not where you were, but you’re not yet where you want to be—and everything feels… messy.
*insert big sigh
The Truth About the Middle
We glamorize beginnings and celebrate endings. But the middle? It’s the part most people don’t talk about.
The middle is where the doubt, the guilt, the shame, and the questioning all creep in. It’s where the voice in your head starts whispering:
“What if this doesn’t work?”
“What if I have to go back?”
“What if this was all a waste?”
But what if… This season isn’t a detour or something you’re meant to zoom on through?
What if it’s actually, very intentionally, allllll a part of the process?
The Middle Isn’t a Test. It’s a Refining.
You may think this is about your job, business, body or your schedule, but more often than not, it’s deeper than that.
The messy middle is where surface-level change meets soul-level transformation.
It’s where old patterns get exposed.
Where your commitment gets clarified.
Where your capacity gets stretched.
And that’s why it feels hard.
You’re confronting years of indecision, identity, and delay.
You’re rewriting your relationship with fear, faith, and forward motion.
This isn’t about whether you’re capable. It’s about whether you’re willing to keep going without having every answer yet.
So… What Now?
If you’re standing in the middle right now—between what was and what could be—but know this:
1. You’re not lost. You’re in process.
This space might feel unfamiliar because you’ve never been this version of yourself before. That’s okay.
2. The doubt doesn’t mean you’re off track.
It means you’re human. And it usually shows up right before your next breakthrough.
3. You’re allowed to sit in it without rushing through it.
You don’t have to figure out the whole path. You just have to take the next faithful step.
Gratitude in the Middle?
I know, it sounds wild, but could you, even just for a moment, choose to be grateful for this?
For the clarity that’s being formed.
For the lessons that won’t be wasted.
For the fact that you’ve already come further than you often give yourself credit for.
This version of you—right now—is growing into something that couldn’t have happened without this season.
So give the middle a name.
Honor it.
Sit in it, just long enough to gain what it came to teach you.
And then… take the next step when it reveals itself.
