Have you ever found yourself settling for “good enough”? You tell yourself it’s practical. It’s realistic. But deep down, you feel a tug—a quiet whisper that asks, Is this really all there is?
You’re not alone. So many of us unknowingly live under an invisible ceiling—a “possibility ceiling”—that keeps us from dreaming bigger or stepping into what we’re truly capable of.
These limits aren’t always obvious, but they show up in the stories we tell ourselves: That’s too risky. I’m not ready. It’s not realistic.
This week I wanted to bust through those limiting beliefs and share the gift of a simple but powerful three-word question that has the potential to shatter those limits and open you up to the life you’re meant to live.
What’s Holding You Back?
The possibility ceiling isn’t about what’s actually possible; it’s about what you believe is possible. It’s shaped by fear of failure, old doubts, or even other people’s opinions or successes. Over time, these beliefs turn into barriers.
Maybe you’ve told yourself that leaving a job that drains you isn’t an option because it’s “secure.” Or maybe you’ve stopped dreaming about the business, relationship, or lifestyle you want because it feels too far out of reach.
For most of us, our "possibility ceiling” goes no further than the things we’ve been exposed to in our lives… and that’s as good as it gets. (or so we think)
The Question That Changes Everything
When a heartfelt conversation about dreaming big in my life took a sharp turn towards “yeah, that’s not actually possible for us…” a new kind of shock wave rang throughout my body. <For the full story, tune into the podcast>
I became obsessively curious with this simple, 3 word question that created a ripple effect of change and was the key to bust through my own possibility ceiling:
But, what if?
Three small words with big impact.
What if you could build the career of your dreams and still have time for your family?
What if the idea you keep pushing aside is the exact thing you’re meant to pursue?
What if you’re capable of so much more than you give yourself credit for?
When you ask “But, what if?” you stop looking at the walls around you and start imagining what’s beyond them. You don’t need all the answers yet—just the willingness to entertain new possibilities.
Game Changer. Mic Drop.
How to Break Your Possibility Ceiling
Shifting your mindset is the first step, but here’s how to turn that shift into action:
Identify the Ceiling
Be honest with yourself. Where in your life have you settled for “good enough”? Write down the areas where you feel stuck, and name the beliefs or fears keeping you there.
Challenge the Beliefs
For each limiting belief, ask: Is this fact or fear? Most of the time, the “truths” we cling to are rooted in fear, not reality.
Dream Beyond the Ceiling
Let your imagination take the lead. Ask “But, what if?” and write down every possibility that comes to mind—no matter how unrealistic or wild it feels. (this is a favorite practice!)
Start Small
Dreams become real through small, consistent actions. Pick one possibility that excites you and take the first step, even if it feels uncomfortable.
Why This Matters
Dreaming bigger isn’t about living in some fantasy land.
It’s about living a life that aligns with your deepest values and your God-given purpose. When you stop settling and start dreaming, you begin to create a life that not only looks good on the outside but feels good on the inside.
The truth is, your “impossible” might be closer than you think.
